We are in the process of designing a fantastic new website. It will have lots of new information available but in the meantime we are keeping this site open. We hope to have the new site up and running in a few weeks so please check back again.

The Oaks Infant School can be found on the outskirts of Sittingbourne, Kent. We are

    a three-form entry school with 9 classes for 270 children in years R, 1 and 2 plus 52

    part-time Nursery places.

We are very fortunate to have a specialist unit attached to our school. The Infant

Class of the Swale Speech and Language Unit caters for  children with a

Statement of Special Educational Need specifically for Speech and Language

problems. The children from the unit integrate as much as possible into the main

school and we are looking at ways to improve this even further.

The school itself dates back to 1969. The school is set in attractive grounds with

many mature trees which attract an abundance of wildlife. We are able to use the

school grounds to take learning out into the environment providing a broad and

enriching experience for the children.  The large classrooms are well lit and each

leads directly to the outside   - though the doors can only be opened from the

inside.  Inside we have a well-stocked library where all the children in the main

school have two sessions a week with our Librarian Teaching Assistant. We are lucky

enough to have two playgrounds, one for use by Foundation Stage children and the

other for Key Stage 1 children.  These are due for further development and will soon

have more activities for the children to enjoy.

Much time and effort has been spent in ensuring that our curriculum reflects the

needs of the children and will be under review again in preparation for the

introduction of a more creative curriculum. We are committed to ensuring that

everyone working in school, both staff and children, has the necessary resources to

work effectively. The teaching staff work together to plan exciting and meaningful

learning for the children and the children use these opportunities well.

We have a leadership team in school made up of Year group leaders, Deputy

Headteacher and Headteacher that ensures everyone works towards a common goal.

We also have an excellent team of Teaching Assistants who support the children and

teaching staff to provide the best possible education. The Higher Level Teaching

Assistants regularly teach small groups for intervention work as well as supervising

classes during teachers’ PPA time. To all of these we can also add a very supportive

    but challenging governing body.
